Boston AREIA Members Donates over $8,000 to Rosie's Place

Boston AREIA hosted a special event for our December 2009 meeting:  an auction fundraiser for Rosie’s Place.   Attendees offered donations to Rosie’s Place and were given real estate investing courses and tickets to educational workshops.  Boston AREIA members donated over $8,000.

Local Auctioneer, Bert Cox, donated his services and helped raise the bids for Rosie’s Place.  Various national speakers donated courses and workshops, including Donna Bauer, Wendy Patton, Scott Meyers, Andy Heller and Than Merrill.

We are thrilled with the enthusiasm of our members at the auction. They stepped up and outbid each other in the spirit of giving. Thank you!

We especially support Rosie’s Place because of it’s dedication to prevention of homelessness and eviction. Their homelessness prevention initiatives, such as rental assistance and support services, provide families the help they need to remain in their homes.

The $8,052 that Boston AREIA members donated to Rosie’s Place will pay for:

  • A full week of dinners for 150 women and their children.
  • A month’s worth of counseling and support for 75 women.
  • A year’s worth of breakfast and school supplies for 6 students in the Women’s Education Program.
  • An eviction prevention payment for 2 women to help maintain their housing.

Rosie’s Place, located in Boston, MA, is a sanctuary for poor and homeless women.  The organization provides a safe and nurturing environment for poor and homeless women to maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. For more information, visit www.rosiesplace.org.

Award Winning BostonAREIA!!!

Ann, Bernadette and Dianne of the Boston AREIA recently trekked to San Antonio, Texas for the Mid-Year National REIA conference.  Our main goal was to meet with numerous other investors associations across the country to learn what they are doing to bring the best education, networking and motivational programs to their members.  We knew the week would be jam-packed full of information, vendors and service providers.  What we didn't know is that we would walk away with 2 AWARDS and given "The Circle of Excellence" Designation!

Electronic Communications

Our first award we won was for Electronic Communication for our Blog entitled, "Diary of a Newbie Real Estate Investor!" which chronicles the trials and tribulations of a newer investor.  This past year, we chronicled Bernadette's efforts as a Profitable Partnerships New England student as she made her way through marketing to finding a property, from closing on the property to dealing with the tenants.  This year, be sure to stay tuned as Maryann Little outlines the details of her first deal and as she proceeds in finding more deals to tackle.

Finance

Our second award was in the area of Finance which focuses on multiple streams of income incorporated into the Boston AREIA business model which supplement dues to expand programming for Boston AREIA members.  Boston AREIA currently has 2 additional revenue sources; the first being the Profitable Partnerships New England Mentorship Program which focuses on giving investors a 3-pronged approach to learning how to be successful at real estate investing; the second being Financial Destination, Inc which supports the goals of real estate investors and provides a variety of services which help investors enhance their business, turn dead leads into profit, gain an edge over the competition and create an incredible monthly residual income in the process.  For more information about either of these programs, e-mail Bernadette at Bernadette@BostonAREIA.com.

The Circle of Excellence

Boston AREIA was also awarded "The Circle of Excellence" Designation.  In order to qualify for this designation an association must meet specific qualifications as set by the National REIA as well as offer the highest standard of excellence in the areas of membership, networking, education and motivation to members and visitors of their Association.

We, the team at Boston AREIA, are very proud of our awards and our Circle of Excellence Designation.  We found the weekend to offer invaluable information and look forward to rolling out many new benefits and programs for our members to enjoy!

BostonAREIA celebrates two years!

In August 2009, Boston AREIA celebrated two years! It was a great meeting - full of balloons, cake, prizes, fun and tons of networking!

Rosie's Place

"What an eye-opening experience!" was the reaction when 15 volunteers from BostonAREIA met on Friday morning, February 6. The group got together to help paint some of the facilities at Rosie's Place, a Boston women's sanctuary on Harrison St.

Rosies Place is a sanctuary for poor and homeless women who have nowhere else to turn. Established in 1974, Rosie's Place is committed to welcoming each guest with respect and unconditional love. Rosie's Place accepts no government funds and relies instead on committed volunteers and private supporters to accomplish its effective and innovative work. Rosie's.org

First we unloaded a car full of "care packages" - donations of toiletries and clothing purchased by other BostonAREIA members at the monthly meetings. Then, the group split in half, with one group going two blocks down to paint hallways in another building, and the first group staying in the main building. Each group was supervised by a "pro". Special thanks to Derek LaCourciere from CertaPro Painters and Jim Happnie for taking the lead and keeping us on track. Although they manage painting crews for a living, they took off this day to volunteer their time and energy to supervise us and show us how it's done!

Derek also supplied materials and t-shirts, along with ladders and tarps. Sherwin Williams supplied the paint and we appreciate their ongoing support of our efforts and of real estate investors nationwide through the National Reia discount program. (See membership benefits for more information on the HUGE discounts that Sherwin Williams provides to REIA members.)

It was a great opportunity to connect with members that we didn't know very well before that day, and to get a sense of accomplishment for a job well done. After painting two multi-floor stairwells, the group packed it up and adjourned to the local pizza parlor, where Jim Rich did his best to beat the Guiness World Book record for the most slices of pizza consumed at one sitting.

We all agreed that the experience had changed our outlook a little, and many of us volunteered on the spot to do it again. Stay tuned for more opportunities to help BostonAREIA help Rosie's Place! Next: a drive to collect more toiletry items.
